Cut and Run Revisited

"When you PULL OUT before the job is done, that's 'cut and run' as far as Im concerned." George Bush
Sounds like he is trying to explain Conflictus Interruptis. No macho man pulls out, for Christs sake! The new mantra in the world of country -western music world, where our President gets most of his philosophy( the rest he gets from the Bible) is "git er done." How do I know this? I just do.

As for doing your job, this is what every soldier who is interviewed says when asked about how they feel. "Just doing my job." Corporatizing killing, in the linguistic sense as well as practical. What does a businessman say when he makes a lot of profit? Just doing my job? Hell no. He says "I made a killing." The rapist /murderer MAKES THE KILLING but doesnt PULL OUT. harsh? Perhaps.

List of Right Wing rhetoric;

-cut and run
-stay the course
-abortion is murder
-spreading democracy and freedom
-premptive stike
-Axis of evil

I can't think of any others now but there are plenty more

If soldiers are only doing a job, then they are only following orders.

Well, abortion is murder, but abortion is only a right-wing issue because most people subscribe to the false dichotomy of right and left.

As for the rest... I can't defend the indefensible.

Troutsky, maybe Bush is afraid that God will smite him for pulling out just like he smote Onan. Oh wait...

I think you and I live in the same cultural black hole, graem.People who havent spent time up here can't really begin to understand people like Dick and lynn Cheney.

Wiser,I watched some candidate on tv the other morning explaining his reasons for being against embryonic stem cell research as essentially pro-life. He felt an option to just discarding the fertility clinic embryos was to make them available for adoption. This opens up some interesting ethical questions. As do the six million already born children who die of starvation before reaching the age of five every year.Pro-life taken to the extreme gets down to sperm and eggs, not to mention hair and fingernails.

a wiser man than i,

Abortion isn't murder because fetuses aren't human. Not only can they not function without the mother, but murder is the illegal killing of someone. But does that fetus count as a person yet? I don't think so.

I take abortion really as a woman's rights issue. It's her life, her choice. Simple as that.

We know the arguments, of course, and I respect Wisers convictions. I wish there were no abortions and perhaps this morning after pill can make the point moot.
