Hard Women
Whats up with right -wing pundit babes? I did a little linking off of neo-neocons blog and while she herself resists the trend I found a number of tough girrlll blogs in a short period to get me wondering. All Things Beautiful has a flattering picture of some dolled up gal followed by some rough right wing rhetoric.Atlas Shrugged starts with a picture of the author in a tight spandex superwoman outfit displaying her mammeries as she denigrates liberal wimpiness and overall masculinity deficit. Last week she was scratching and kicking away at some poor, female ,liberal blogger but she comes down hard on any bleeding heart jihadist enablers. Of course Ann Coulter has made this tough babe genre a mainstream phenom and Michelle Malkin probably revs up a few Limbaugh lovers . I think the overall tone and style is quasi- fascist with plenty of skin. Sonia is in her own category altogether. Tough and mean, not a hint of family values.

Interesting observation, now for my attempt to come up with the reasoning behind all this...
To support The War on Terror one needs to place the prosect of security, however dubious, over all. This, I think, is nothing more than the womanly instinct at work. Hence neo-con circles, like those of traditional liberals--for the creation of the mommy state, integral to modern liberalism is also in line with security concerns--are generously sprinkled with women.
Libertarians, on the other hand, tend to weild y chromosomes.
It then follows that accepting the War on Terror means being Tough on Terror. Thus the all the tough grrrl posturing. Or so my thinking goes.
Sonia has been a curveball I've yet been able to wrap my head around. As for the rest, their motives seem all to Freudian. They always seems to be trying to gain acceptance, always trying to nullify their self hate by aligning themselves with the very types that planted the seeds of self loathing in the first place. Daddy please love me...
i read recently that Malkin suffers from racial stockholm syndrome.
Do suppose correctly the fascism/socialism connection you refer to Brad is the subsumation of the self to the interests of the society, or state? Kind of a Buddhist philosophy. The fascist tendency I see has to do more with fear of the "other" and that stylistic sneer, the fashion sense behind black boots.
I've always enjoyed the tit for tat with Sonia. My blog became a combat blog since she started her first fight a few years ago over Chavez.
She helped define who I'am.
I understand it finally, what ever is bothering anyone can be discussed into insignificance, the opposite of rabble rousing. Clever, I never noticed before.
Some of sonias analysis is thought out but some is just reactionary.I wonder to what degree her "situation" defines her politics, I mean, do you suppose she is filthy rich, jumping from nudist island to island?
I don't see it gregrangar, I thought we were discussing whether my observation had any sigificance. Thats why i like the feedback, to see if others are intrigued by these same things and can add to my understanding.
Yes, it is the notion of the collective over the individual that makes the two related (but more from a Rousseau/Hegel perspective). However, there is also the need for authoritarianism: to maintain cohesiveness and to enforce common good (someone once wrote that all attempts to institutionalize fraternity end in despotism).
Brad
(anon cause i cant get my blooger account to work)
I don't know about Sonia, because I've never visited her site. But that "Atlas Shrugged" Pam women is seriously deranged.
Daddy please love me...

1. The opposition to my father definitely defined my politics. My hatred of totalitarian demagogues like Chavez might be because he reminds me so much of my father.
2. I don't think you know what 'reactionary' really is, Troutsky. People you think are 'reactionary' are quite progressive compared to people you mistakenly identify as 'progressive'...
