Democrats Rehearse

The people have spoken! In Wisconsin a big turnout brought us the New Rising Star for the neoliberal program and in Egypt a left-over from the old regime is in a runoff with the Muslim Brotherhood candidate. Everyone involved got a purple finger and the knowledge they exercised their Right. We should recall how the union leadership and Democratic party leadership stepped in when the occupation of the state capitol in Madison was reaching ever more radical consciousness. There was talk of a strike, of refusal, of rejection of the status quo. John Nichols of the Nation magazine was giddy, but counselled a pragmatic, electoral approach. All the progressives chimed in. Millions of dollars and tens of thousands of hours spent. In a formal, bourgeois democracy, there appear to be clear winners and losers. Some rejoice and some weep. Then everyone gets back to work. With the sad jobs numbers and Eurozone turmoil and Puritanical appeal to all things Austere, we may end up with a bizarre Mormon as the head of the Free World. I only wish Kurt Vonnegut and Hunter Thompson had lived long enough to see it. Irony is dead and nothing is replacing it. Emptiness. Meanwhile, the trade unions in New York city are supporting the governor who is trying to dismantle the public sector unions. The Nato summit went as planned. As did the G8. On the brighter side we got students inspiring a nation up in Quebec and a new International taking shape over at IOPSociety.com and folks willing to fight coal export up and down the proposed line. But we are not voting for any of it.

All this anti public union sentiment is really an attack on teachers. They're the ones who have been vilified and if we just privatize and pay them less, all will be well.

Melinda Gates told us that and since she doesn't know squat about education we should listen because she's rich. At least the privatization story. She's lying low with the Kochs on the union busting.

Spain got a good deal. The banks get to refloat and no austerity. I'm not sure why they didn't get the same treatment as Greece, Portugal or Ireland.
Without austerity, how can Europe get back to economic growth?

Boy, we showed those Arabs. That's the last time they'll step out of line for a while ... or else it's the Kill List for you.

Demonstrations all over and thy just get beaten down. Beak must be writing the script.

Everyone fighting over scraps as the Galtian overlords intended.

Well Pagan, don't worry.

Until Dems have the guts to can the Democratic Leadership Council corporate pimps and actually stand on even progressive ideas (forget socialist) the destruction will continue. You seem to enjoy it for some reason.

On a brighter note.

... better hope Europe gets it right because if this gets screwed up there is going to be an epic shit storm.

What's frightening about the Spanish banks is that they, more so than other European banks, bundled their crap and sold it all over the world.

You've got banks everywhere that have no idea what their exposure might be.

Familiar?
Ask not who's pocket is being picked by the invisible hand, it's yours.

No democracy for you we like the military regime just fine.

The Arab Spring. Got shot down and stuffed just like Prague and Beaks laughing all the way.

Montreal, Moscow, Athens, Cairo, Santiago ... people are in the streets. It's growing and here comes the clamp down.

Ducky

I wish I got that promotion. Haven't seen Ren, Che Bob or Prof Tarzan around ... Actually, lefties kill themselves better than their foes.

Who was the voice of reason for Arab Spring. An apologist for Marx is claiming Prauge are you drinking cheap beer again.

Not all change is for the better and when the people of Cuba and Venezuela revolt count me in.

You don't remember the Prague Spring, Beak?

Yes I do

I also remember your kind advocating and rationalizing Marxist tyranny across the globe.
Let there be Havana spring and toss
