Better Left Unsaid

Everyone is shocked, just shocked that the Holy Reverend Pat would advocate "taking out" a foreign leader. Yet no one blinked twice when the CIA tried eight different times to kill Fidel Castro, congressmen were blase' talking about how Arafat needed to be whacked, there was a bounty for the live or dead corpse of Saadam Husein and the history of the last fifty years is littered with bodies the CIA or other intelligence forces strew around Latin America, from Arch Bishop Romero to Salvador Allende to Che Guevara. Add to this list as you remember them. Robertson made the mistake of saying what everyone is thinking and the hypocracy is both pathetic and instructural in it's shadow message :Those Things Never Happened, Keep Quiet and It Will Go Away.

An excellent point, especially in regards to Castro. I'm not sure we can be held fully culpable for Arch-Bishop Romero. We can and should be held accountable for the School of the Americas, though. Small distinction perhaps, but important nonetheless.

It's curious to me that we still have the school open, albeit under a different moniker. Doubtful if this Congress would do a thing about it and I haven't heard a news story about it in a long time.

I need to do some fact checking on Romero, you are right Wiser.I can't remember my source for that one.
SOA or whatever they now call it has been under the radar. Maybe the years of protests (I was there in 2003) actually had some effect!Several activists did jail time for crossing the line.

My husband and I were just discussing this. Reagan wanted Khadafi eliminated, and I guess America accepted that Khadafi's little girl was acceptable collateral damage at some point. After all, I don't recall anyone ever serving time for murder.

I am sickened by the contorted shape of the new American ideal.
