River Ron

Taking my wife to work this chilly morning I saw a local character we call River Ron walking north across Main Street carrying his worldly possessions on his back and muttering occasionally to himself. This is Montana and we are experiencing record cold for this early date but Ron has endured much much worse, camping as he does year round in very makeshift arrangements. I was invited one near- zero day into his tarp tent which was heated only by candles. He has been in the area for ten years or more and I do not know his backstory, but he prefers this independent life to staying in shelters or on urban streets and manages to survive. He always has a fishing pole in one hand but I don't know if he hunts game.

My wife says over thirty percent of the Head Start children she deals with come from homeless families, a shocking figure to me. Most stay tenuously with friends or family, though some live out of cars or in shelters. Many of her kids have parents in prison. In America there are roughly three million homeless people on any given night and the number is rapidly growing, as are the general assistance and food lines of course. The Missoula City Council recently passed an ordinance banning the sleeping in doorways in the down town area and a coalition is forming to fight it. I wish it were a simple cut and dried issue of injustice but I think there are contingent factors and any protest would need to focus on roots of homelessness and the lack of social services in general.

As talk of escalation in Afghanistan moves front and center, the worn narratives over Viet Nam still haunt the national psyche and highlight the dysfunctional nature of "liberal/ democratic" capitalist imperialism. ( a mouthful, I know) Every time a historical analogy gets brought up, the contested territory of "history" causes paralysis, usually favoring the status quo. From Wilsons "Fourteen Point plan" to "Losing China" to "we could have won in Viet Nam" there is a consistent theme from rightwing revisionists, "The Enemy Within". It goes like this: If only we had listened to those of strong moral character and brave hearts ( exemplifying the "True America Character") instead of weak willed naysayers, we could have prevailed ( in each of these instances). Indeed, it is "the enemy within" which must be defeated before righteousness can prevail. Another chorus to this martial hymn is "Let the Generals decide", for their moral standing and hard headed, clear eyed rationality is above reproach. Talk shows are filled with the square-jawed warriors, fighting and re-fighting each war over and over.

Here we go again with commies talking nostalgically about the mess they created in South East Asia. Boat People, re- education camps and Killing Fields while talking about fictional third party groups is an achievement of Marx.Ayers and Company deserved to die for treason.

Afghanistan is entirely winnable invade in force. If need be cross into Pakistan and finish the job. Forget Nation building. Split the
nation up and concentrate in the Pashtun and Baloch areas.

There ain't nothing that can't be fixed with a little more war, eh, Beak?

Troutsky,

Don't you think it's time for a little right-left switcheroos. No-nothing economists are acting like this thing is over, but anyone who is working for a living knows things are still getting worse. When they do, look for Obama to bomb someone. The Right won't know what to do, and the Left will probably cheer by reflex.

See Louis Proyect on the generals issue.

I expect Obama to triangulate, giving less troops than the military desires for Afghanistan, but still too many. The rest based in Pakistan.

Medea Benjamin of Code Pink, came out against immediate withdrawal from Afghanistan, for the women. Her heart is in the right place. The US will never annihilate the Taliban. Political Islam was created by US imperialism.

In Pakistan the only ones fighting the Taliban seriously, are the Pakistani socialists. It has not been a war against the Taliban. The IPI and the Pakistani army, are in bed with them.

Beak: When Marx talked about the social nature of production, I'm sure he had Cambodia in mind.

Renegade Testicle

You seem to forget Pol Pot is a perfect example of Marx in Action.
Rather, than admit yet another failure of your death cult you invent
more excuses. You are more fundamentalist in your insane death cult belief than the jihadis you form antisemitic entryist alliances with.

Wiser.

The goal should be to kill Al Queda. Afghanstan like the rest of the nations in the area is a colonial creation. A threat to create a Pashtun state should motivate Pakistan to get going. Commies are used to railing about contrived ethnicities, but there are many more Pashtuns than Pseudostinians.

While we are there I would like to
send commies who are in unlawful service to hostile foreign governments to Gitmo for denaturalization. It seems that Chavez has paid agents in the USA and they need to go.

Here Renegade Testicle knowingly lies. Gulbadin Heckmatyar of the Taliban was a KGB agent. The Communists used their boy Heckmatyar to underminme the government.

Commies use the political Islam
crap while ignoring that their own
history with Islam is genocidal.
Deportation of Muslims via cattle car is a fact of Communist history.
Brutality and repression against Muslims is a fact of Communist history.

Beak, thanks for appearing as if on cue each time I need a point illustrated. You owe us some numbers: how many troops, how long will it take , how much will it cost, how many must die?

Wiser, you have read your history.By "right left" I assume you mean Repubs and Dems. True conservatives and anti-imperialists will be apalled. Are you suggesting fewer WalMart stampedes at Christmas time?

Ren, They will have to arrest every junkie on the planet for assisting the Taliban. To buy the Taliban off like they did the Sunnis in Iraq, the government could liquidate it's bank holdings!

A good essay in today's Boston Globe

"We’ve been living in a fool’s paradise. The result may be a government that is as good as the American people, which is something that should concern everyone."

He's not pulling any punches. I think he wrote this one for Beak.

Locally we can't keep the food banks stocked and the statistics say Boston isn't having it quite as hard as most areas.
The last thing it seems we are willing to do is admit we have to have some fundamental change but even the most watered down social democracy is being resisted.

An instructive exercise will be to study how the right worked the refs and the Dems just caved in railroading ACORN. Now they are getting ready for a full court press to repeal the original CRA act that outlawed redlining.
Okay, Barney Frank isn't going to let that go anywhere now but it's coming, it's coming. To our everlasting shame.

Exhibit A: Beak

"Afghanistan is entirely winnable". Just exert our will and all those stinking Muslim pickaninnies will snap into line, right Beak?

Hey Beak damned if the Karzai government isn't the Diem regime circa 1962 -- corrupt, culturally at odds with the majority of the country, and not truly in control of it.

That's an impossible situation to "win". no?

Can you explain why you think we can force our will on a nation that has never had a central government in recorded history? Heavier ordnance?

Beak: A peasant army can't be Marxist. Marxism is about the commanding heights of industry.

China now that it's becoming industrial, is creating the roots of real socialism. Heck Mao talked about capitalism having a 100 year reign in China. He never wanted socialism. He was upset the capitalists fled to Formosa.

I'm not going to argue about Zionism, since it only exists as a historical movement. Its no different than any other nationalism, whether it be Palestinian, or Marcus Garveyite. Its all the same. Still Zionist leaders today, are in bed with Christian fundamentalists, who see Jews as tools for Armageddeon. They don't attack their antisemitism, racism or homophobia. Unfortunately Zionism has always tried persuading oppressors.

Afghanistan is entirely winnable invade in force. If need be cross into Pakistan and finish the job. Forget Nation building. Split the nation up and concentrate in the Pashtun and Baloch areas.

LOL. Tried before and failed. See British.

I don't do entryism.

Beak is friends with a guy called Bad Eagle. He doesn't do name calling or trolling at Bad Eagle's site praised by Nazis.

Here we go again with more lies from Renegade Testicle

I have been very critical of Dr Yeagley. He has never appeared on my blog and there are no links.

Actual Nazis are linked to this blog and that of Renegade Testicle. Liberal White Boy has been frequently quoted at Stormfront. His comment and content is never criticized by Renegade Testicle who seeks to cultivate the webs foremost collection of anti semites on the web starting with LWB, John Brown,
MILF from Lebanon, Daniel Hoffman Gilbert and Sulivan, Larry Gamboner, Grameful Dead the marijuana Marxist, Gertrude Myers and I probably left out a few. Your blog resembles Der Shturmer and you play a good Trotskyite Capo.

Speaking of numbers death cultist lets start with 100,000,000. It will take far less than the number of people you morons have butchered to achieve the goal. Lets see we tell Pakistan to shape up or we create a Pashtun state.
Pakistan doesn't want that so they get busy.

Charlie

The clown has been visited by Storm fronters many times. His comments are indistinguishable from those of Renegade Testicle.

Moreover Renegade Testicle and Troutsky knowingly welcome LWB and have their blogs linked to this site. You are entitled to your own opinion, not your own facts.

As far as a fascist, a Il Duce style brown shirt would be a marked form of improvement over Trotskyitism. Then again unlike the Death cultists I am in the mainstream.

Viva Stupidity Che Sponge Bob is the Supreme Imbecile er leader,
