Illusion: All Of It, using air strikes on mountain villages to win the War on Terror, Tax cuts for the rich will spur the economy, letting gays marry will destroy the institution, the government wants to take your guns, ALL of IT, affirmative action is discrimination, intelligent design, privatizing creates efficiency, all junk theory, magic , superstition, marketing. If you work hard and play by the rules... anyone can become President.
It is all one Little House on the Prairie and they will cling to their illusion with an insane ferocity. If they find Gov. Palin is a member of a polygamist cult? Well, gee, we need to focus on unity. If it turns out the cult practices cannibalism? You know, these are private matters. The porn films? I completely agree with Ren that voting for Obama is a major mistake. It only encourages this ridiculous political system to continue business as usual.
I'd like to add that saying one is for unions is a lot different than actually making policy that builds a labor movement. I think it is way off the mark to ever again say that this system is even remotely salvageable.
Obama can say he is pro this and pro that, but his actions and constant reversing of positions (flip-flopping) do not reflect any genuine commitment to change. Besides, even if were remotely genuine, he'd never be allowed to carry out any platform for change...even as president. I'll kiss Beakerkin's hairy white ass if anything of significance changes under Obama! (Then I'll push him into the Hudson River and let him swim back to wherever the hell it was he came from!)
I say the only ethical vote is a vote against both Obama and McCain. Hell, entertain yourselves and vote for Beakerkin if you're already planning to hold your noses!
