I assume it's been tabled for the time being so we can break out our trusty Atlas' and find Yemen...yes, here it is..not so far really from those other troublesome countries we have been learning about. Similar rates of extreme poverty, similar skin color, better WIKI it and see what we're up against. You almost get the idea al-Qaeda is giving geography lessons in a round about way. Where will we learn about next?

And of course we all know the Santyana quote about being "condemned to repeat" the bloody past so we see the crucial importance in being the one to write the history. I could write The History of Yemen next week and with a little luck end up on FOX and CNN and NPR and maybe Beaks informative blog. Why shouldn't I be an authority, a seasoned analyst, an expert on Yemen? I wrote the History of Texas ( Alamo patriots), the History of Palestine ( a land without a people) ,the history of Haiti and Packistan so why shouldn't I be advising Barack ( Peace Prize) Obama? What do you suppose histories "verdict" is on the Comanche way of life? The "verdict" on liberal democracy? Thumbs up? Thumbs down? Beak?
It's probably a little to early for history to deliver a verdict on our global response to climate change ( what is the requisite waiting period?) but I think Democrat Evan Bayh of Indiana makes a good case for the defence: "We need to deal with the phenomena of global warming but...it's very difficult in the kind of economic circumstances we have right now." This is a common sense, "don't get your panties in a bunch", economics/ politics approach that prefers to wait till we have a little "extra" bonus money that we can then spend on the luxury of emission cuts. I'm sure a "Green" politician will argue for some "Green" jobs and they will reach a liberal democratic compromise. Will it satisfy all those "Climate Change" activists that were in Copenhagen? Communism was a disaster and has been implicated in crimes against humanity on a staggering scale.
The unseasonable cold is doing a good deal of damage against the global warming crowd. I know, I know, it's "climate change", but this dubious concept is much harder to sell since it's difficult to find weather that isn't indicative of "climate change".
Meanwhile, the economy is important. If green jobs were so obviously preferable to the status quo, we would have shifted that direction by now. But saving the planet has some economic cost; it won't be Armageddon, but neither will it be painless.
And you can't really expect politicians to deal with a crisis that might occur tomorrow as against that which confronts them today. If you want to help the planet, you'll just need to make like the punks and DIY.

As for Michael Savage this is incorrect. The person I did listen to was Mark Levin a genuine Constitutional scholar. I haven't had the opportunity to listen to talk radio in three years. Talk radio is not something people do on public transportation. Savage is more in the mainstream than the people at this blog.
As for Yeagley as an American he has a right to make his own choices. You seem to think that racial power kooks are lower than commies like Ren. You are quite mistaken in that Commies have killed 100,000,000 and a history of treason in this country. While racial arsonists are low lives commies are lower.
I will also point to Pastor Wrights racist Church that preaches what is known as Black Liberation Theology. The Marxist roots and overtones in that group are well known.

I don't see much hope for the US for most of the same reasons that Dymtry does. Also the US political system is such that it blocks social change. In a parliamentary system (on which virtually all democracies except the US are based) it is normal to have more than two parties and it not too much of a problem to create a new party (Even easier with proportional representation) But the US system is a kind of soft core totalitarianism that only allows two parties with almost the same ideology. Everything else is deliberately marginalized - with terror if need be. Basically in the US system 60% of the political spectrum is eliminated from having any real input.
Having a multiplicity of parties and an ability to create new ones that can actually have influence, allows a system to evolve and change. A system such as that of the USA is thus trapped, reforms cannot be made and so it will slip ever further into barbarism.
This, I assure you, is not something I greet with pleasure. We live next to the Beast and what happens there effects us adversely as well.

Larry - I guess I don't understand this last phrase of this sentence. But I do agree with your assessment overall; it is not a system set up for change.
But, if you look back at the founding history; it seems that Americans prefer armed revolt!!
Armed revolt is one of the things that worries me. I do see this possibly happening, but certainly not in any direction leftists would want. Armed conflict in the US would have repercussions in Canada as people flee north and I wouldn't count out the possibility of cross-border raids from the US side.
As for the sentence of mine you quote it just means that if the US cannot reform it will break down and increasing barbarism will result (ie taking on more of the worst aspects of a Third World Country.)

Ducky, this is what I fear. For all my "rad" credentials, I would really love to see the US evolve in the direction of social democracy - and thereby catch up with the rest of us. But the likelihood of that seems slim - unless there are some unexpected changes. Wonder what Ren thinks of this discussion? I know he favors the establishment of a Labor party in the US, which certainly would be a good thing, but given the political structure of the US how likely could such a party make an impact?
