Two Cents Worth
Every blog has been instructed to write something about Sarah Palin so here is my obligatory expectoration.
It occurred to me that when the snarky super-star of the right delivered her dig: "How's that Hopey Changey thing workin out for ya?" she perfectly captured the dominant cynical weltschmartz of our time. While directed at frustrated independents and Democrats, she was probably blissfully unaware of how biting it must be to conservatives, libertarians, Tea Party folks or just about anybody unhappy with the status quo as well ( if and when they stop to think about it.) The civics text narrative is America as that great, hopeful experiment but what happens when poles show 100% dissatisfaction with everyone and everything but no one is doing anything about it? ( except poring another shot or re-loading the pipe)
It basically confirms what everyone senses: You are trapped! This is how it is going to be from here on out, corruption, malfeasance, ineptitude and a certain down-homey Deliverance-ish cruelty are "in" so get used to it. It is South Park Nation!
The problem for Republican candidates now is how to craft optimistic sounding slogans without using the words "hope" or "change" which have now been poisoned from both ends; the failure of Obama and the sarcasm of Palin. John Stewart dead pans or rolls his eyes but the message is the same: Good Thing I Have My Own TV Show because you'all are so screwed.Other comedians have plenty of material but it is increasingly mean and elicits that Don Rickles-kind of unease. Remember: Nice Guys Finish Last. There is a Sucker Born Every Minute. Don't Take Any Wooden Nickles. Dog Eat Dog.Each Against All.

I think Tim Pawlenty, is the rising star in the GOP. He doesn't have the baggage, that Sarah Palin has, and he's a loyal Republican. Sarah Palin is only about cashing in.
Joe the Plumber complains now that John McCain "used" him during the presidential race.
People will not turn out for the Democrats,but the GOP is not an alternative.
It is easy to be Don Rickles when surrounded by the ignorantii.
This blog is like the scene in Jurassic Park where Goldblum ponders about man and dinosaurs. Maybe I should make my own mockumentary called Jurassic Commies unlike lab rats they never learn.
I like my idea for a Fox Reality show called Revolting America. We take freaks like Che Bob, Renagade
Testicle, Larry Switch Hitter Gambone and Professor KKKultur on a trip across real America where they attempt to talk openly about communism or anarchism to the American people.
No doubt tar and feathering weekly to patriotic music would get boring after a while, but it would get high initial ratings. Perhaps the fraud dissident of MIT could push his books in our commercials. His dissent like those of commies elsewhere is from reality itself.
Correct ren, people won't turn out for Dems. Then we pass the mess back to the R's who complain about the mess the D's left and it gets circular very quickly.
Meanwhile, the public doesn't seem to be able to realize who's got the real power and who benefits through the entire sorry cycle.
The D vs. R thing is just window dressing.
The evidence is mounting. Our political system has outlived its whitewashed appearance of meaningfulness. Ours truly is a one party system, with two factions, like jealous infantile siblings, fighting for their rights to the toys. The charade is over; this excuse for political leadership must soon bring itself to an end by its own inability to act.

Reminds me that "Mr. Hulot's Holiday" (Highly recommended) is playing this weekend and I've come to appreciate it as a gentle form of comedy that has disappeared.
Jacques Tati is absolutely brilliant in lampooning the effects of modernity on people trying to relax. He continues the theme in "Mon Oncle" and "Playtime" but despite being spot on correct in his humor he never manages the nastiness that has consumed us here in the winter of our discontent.
Myself, I think "South Park" is a real landmark and not an encouraging one.
