Left Behind
Finally a crisis that allows clear distinctions between the authoritarian Right and small d democrats. Cruising the Sphere of Ignorance ( Fox news, Gateway Pundit, right wing blogs, etc) we see, as in the torture debate, the clear love for Our Beloved Father The Authority. This is actually what Egypt's new Vice President Suleiman called Mubarak in an interview yesterday. On one side we see support for Israel and irrational fear of Muslim Brotherhood peeling conservatives away from their Tea Party pretensions and rhetoric about Liberty. Authority loving liberals like Obama-Clinton-Kerry also struggle to find a position where the hypocrisy doesn't just drip from their every word. Nicholas Kristoff, who was down on the square, will not join Joe Biden in subservient humiliation. Juan Cole over at Informed Consent has also drawn a forceful line. Meanwhile John Mc Cain warns against a "spreading virus". Father brings Stability.
I personally think the protesters may have to accept Obama's craven, cowardly proposal to let Suleiman take over. It still is an amazing victory sending signals world wide. Suleiman and the Administrations which knew of his activities will become the focus of intense scrutiny. And it will give the pro-democracy forces a chance to develop a positive political program moving forward. I do not envy whoever takes over because the problems are enormous but at least they can roll back the disastrous neoliberal "reforms" which have been imposed. The society is divided and counter-reform forces will plague any new leadership. The military is a big unknown.
Here is a sampling of comments from Gateway Pundit, linked to on Pagan's blog:
"I hope they slip some pork in their burgers"
"They will get enforcement of Sharia law."
"It's nothin personal, I'm sure there are some nice looking Nefertiti's" ( speaking to the attractiveness of the women on TV)
"The mean IQ in Egypt is 83."
"The essential philosophical architecture for supporting a democracy simply does not exist in primitive belief systems (Islam) of this type."( resident intellectual)
"Obama is setting off a wave of anti-semitic violance (sp) by supporting this Islamo-facist rebellion."
Goebbels would be proud. I'm sure Rupert Murdoch is.
Not that the left is always coherent. This is Ted Rall from Common Dreams: "Global revolution is immanent...set off by unpredictable events, as the result of spontaneous passion rather than organized mobilizations. There is no need to organize or plan. Scheming won't make any difference. Just get ready to RECOGNIZE REVOLUTION when it occurs. then drop what you are doing and THEN organize."

Reality doesn't get in the way of the right's analysis.
The Muslim Brotherhood were late comers, and minor players.
Not only Muslims were in the streets.
The Palestinian Authority had a pro-Mubarak rally. Hamas broke up a support for the Egyptian masses rally.
Demo Saturday in Syria.
Ren ralks about reality. A person who venerates Bronstein the Mendicant
War Criminal as a Messiah is really off his meds and projecting his evils
onto others.
Of course when the Muslim Brotherhood does Old Yeller three and starts killing commies again Ren will make excuses. Did he pen one sentence when his sacred Pseudostinians ( Residents of Gaza have always been Egyptian) airmailed lefties from roof tops.
On one side we see support for Israel and irrational fear of Muslim Brotherhood peeling conservatives away from their Tea Party pretensions and rhetoric about Liberty.
Spot on. I caught a little bit of Hannity while scanning for stations on the way home this week. It's astounding to me how every single incident that occurs anywhere else in the world can be used to demonstrate that: 1) Obama is out of touch; and 2) until country X adopts the American program, they'll be overrun with anti-American hordes who will agitate against The Best Country Ever.
Mencken was right: "The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."
While I wish the Egpytians well, I can't see that this relates to us much at all. It's as good a time as any to end foreign aid and mind our own business.
The previous dolt is also off his meds. The Muslim Brotherhood supporters in the USA have zero involvement with the Tea Party.
Code Pinko has plenty of involvement with their front groups in the USA.
The left lies
American die
Commies leave home
mimmic Jim Jones
Why is the Muslim Brotherhood consistently lumped with Iran? They aren't Persian, they aren't Shia and they have much more in common with more democratic movements in Turkey.
They have been a convenient boogie man that Mubarak has used to harden our support. A church is blown up today and the dipstick American media without reports that it is a fundamentalist act. Of course Mubarak supporters wouldn't stir up a little controversy in that fashion.
Living in America, one of the dumbest least informed western nations(just read Beak's stuff) makes it difficult to evaluate this movement.
If the Muslim Brotherhood does end up taking over Egypt, like I've been saying they might, I'm going to aggravate the living fuck out of everybody who said I was wrong. My goal will be to make people cry the minute they see my screen name on their comments page before they ever read a word of what I've posted.
I'm going to say this one more time. You can't impose democracy. The very idea is contradictory on the face of it. If Mubarak is forced out now, or too soon for the proper arrangements to be made, what you are doing is fomenting chaos and setting up a situation that will culminate in mob rule.
It will be a power vacuum, with two possible outcomes. One, the Egyptian military imposes martial law, or tries to, and sets up a military dictatorship.
Two, the people rally around the Muslim Brotherhood.
Those are the only two institutions in Egypt with the authority, influence, and infrastructure necessary to translate into predominance over the nation's political affairs.
There will not be a socialist government in Egypt. If one is cobbled together, with perhaps Mohamed El-Beredei as the front man, it will not be a natural or "organic" movement, it will be an outside imposition that can't last, let alone grow and thrive.
El-Beredei's presence makes me think this movement had its origins somewhere in the UN, with some help from the US State Department. I don't pretend to know what's going on totally, but this didn't just happen overnight. This is subversion and sedition, arranged and run by people who know how to do things like this under the radar screen of American, Egyptian, and Israeli security services, at least one of whom should have caught this bomb before it exploded.
If Obama turns out to be involved at this on some level, to the extent it can be said he sanctioned it, beforehand, it might be enough to warrant impeachment proceedings, especially if it ends up causing a regional war, or the whole region to slide into chaos and upheaval.
The Fundamentalist Duck who has never bothered to read anything other than that penned by similar fundamentalist Marxist dolts is an expert on ignorance being an actual imbecile does grant him expertise.
Of course when the Muslim Brotherhood slaughters commies the rabid antisemites will make a Jewish plot. One can see the far left do this at Counterpunch with Truther fantasies courtesy of the far left.
Sooner or later the folks in Cuba rise up and get slaughtered and the usual suspects will blame the CIA and Mossad.
Yawn
Yeah, the world doesn't have enough problems, so we just really needed this shit!
Beak: Why do you lie? Show me one post, that is pro-Islamist on my blog?
The Muslim Brotherhood was invited by the new vice president to be legal.
My position on Islamists, is as Lenin's. Even capitalism is better than theocracy.
Lets face it. Beak is Mr Identity Politics.
Really Ren
Who has been championing the loonies in Gaza? Did you say one word when the folks at Hamas airmailed Commies off building tops.
A broken clock is right twice a day.
You have also rationalized and championed their counterparts in Lebanon with a thoroughly antisemitic partner MILF from Lebanon. Then again you have championed Hamas's spokes mouth Finky.
It is a matter of time till the folks at the Muslim Brotherhood do Old Yeller 3 with commies.
Of course Ren is well aware that many religious loons are Commies as well think Gulbadin Heckmatyar.
Ren, Trotsky or the Duck can switch a manifesto for a Koran and repeat 90% of their material.
Beak, you honor me but I'll leave it to Ren or Trout to lay out what the Koran has to say about the labor theory of value.
Or can you elaborate?
Don't humor him Ducky.
Pagan: Are you suggesting Obama wanted to destabilize the region? Some kind of weird shock doctrine thing?
I think it is all a ploy by Mubarak and his allies (Israel?) to sway US public opinion. Because most Americans associate Muslim Brotherhood with Ayatollah Kohmeini and Hamas ( due to profound ignorance) , Mubarak wants them to be seen "negotiating". All stagecraft. Obama is simply stuck with no good political options and he lacks the courage to do the right thing.
He's been pushing Mubarak to leave, unless he's changed his tune over the last two or three days. Admittedly, I haven't been keeping up on it that well. That's just the thing, if Mubarak leaves too, there's no one capable of taking charge but the Egyptian military, or the Muslim Brotherhood. What the hell is the hurry? Why not let him stay until September, allow him to prepare for a peaceful transition, and then hold him to his vows to leave at that point?
Obama probably isn't intending to cause chaos, he's just making the same mistake Bush made when he insisted on free elections in Gaza. Nobody expected Hamas to take over, and they all ended with egg on their faces when they did.
And for the record, I agree with Glenn Beck, except I wouldn't compare an Islamic caliphate with Babylon, which was actually a very advanced civilization for its time.
Pagan, you make the mistake of looking at the Muslim world as monolithic.
Utter nonsense.
And you, Ducky, make the mistake of looking at the Muslim world as one in which anybody's right or opinions matter aside from the latest fatwa or jihad. There are two different kinds of people when it comes to Islamic societies. There are those who do what they're told, and there are those who, if they do disagree with the Islamic rulers, are cordially invited to shut the fuck up about it. When are you going to learn that?
Huh? When you gonna learn, Ducky? Huh? Huh? Huh? LOL
Hamas is guarding the Egypt border, keeping out revolution.
Beak: Your man Reagan gave arms to Iran illegally, and fostered Saddam.
The main enemy of Islamism, is Leninism. Lenin even supported capitalism, over Islamism.
That's probably because Lenin thought the Islamists were "not a factor".
Here we go with more lies from Communist Ren
Saddam Hussein was a member of the IRAQI BAATH Party. As a member of the BAATH party he was a Socialist and one of your commie cumwads. Unlike Bronstein, there is no evidence that he recieved welfare payments. Also unlike Bronstein the mendicant he could write coherently without being self serving.
Sadam was armed with T series tanks
and Mig Jets which are not produced by the USA. He also had an army of Soviet advisers who in typical commie style taught his army how to surrender in large numbers.
Reagan also gave weapons to Iran to aid the Contras. Fellow travelers aided and abetted commies with an illegal Boland Amendment while they were using Soviet helicopters and Pseudostinian mercenaries to assassinate Indians on their land for resisting collectivization.
In Reaganesque style it is time to arm Contras in Hugo's crack den. They should be based in Colombia and be encouraged to kill foreign tourists on Theresienstadt tours.
Colombia already has sufficient justification for an invasion based upon the war criminal Chavez's arming Narco criminal terrorists FARC.
You should stick with pimping steroid using men in tights.
