Perhaps in order to counter all the Amy Goodman and Free Speech TV I've been absorbing lately I decided to keep my radio dialed to KLYQ all day. This jewel is a talkshow and Fox News station broadcast right here in Hamilton Mt and for two hours I listened to Rush Limbaugh and for another three I listened to Sean Hannity while painting my house. In what I can only assume is an average day, Rush invoked the spectre of socialism four times in his slot and Sean spat out the word five times in his. Of course, socialism is equated with anything left of Joseph Biden so it gets somewhat blurred by references to Move On and old Ted Kennedy. Voluntarily listening to this is a form of spiritual self-mutilation, like the Salafists flaying themselves or Catholics kneeling on broomsticks. And a real test.
These wingers are unbelievably fixated on Hillary right now, with Nancy Pelosi a close second in the running for anti-Christ. All the males on the show used the same tone they might when speaking of ex-wives and were incensed that silly women were going to vote for a woman JUST BECAUSE of her gender whereas all the guys were voting for Rudy because they are.... discerning. They spewed venom on Al Gore (what Paul Krugman is calling "Gore Derangement Syndrome") and his ridiculous "warming theory"(and the Nobel Committee), on Frank Rich for his "good Germans" op ed in the Times yesterday, (and all "drive by media", which is everything but Fox and NY Sun) on Reid for stirring up the Armenians who are upsetting the Turks and all the other usual suspects (public education, public tv, public anything) Surrender monkeys, freedom fries, purple fingers, General Sanchez, all the good news about the surge, the strong field of Republican candidates, Ditto Heads in La La Land. Rush even took the opportunity to mock the N.Carolina Governor's call for water conservation, saying he had all his cars washed everyday as should every good American. Remind me not to do that again for awhile. All the more reason to get our socialist radio station up and running. Live From Lenningrad! 24 hour Cuban music! We can play Chavez's new CD!

NBC's Today show opened with a segment on the captured child rapist, went to Prince William's girlfriend, then to an interview with Larry Craig and wife, and of course the requisite pieces on OJ and Brittany. Not a word about Texas oilman Oscar Wyatt Jr. pleading guilty to charges that he paid millions in illegal bribes to Iraqi officials to win contracts connected to the United Nations oil for food program. I'm just finishing a book on Texas and it's assholes, over five thousand pages so far.

That's where you are tragically wrong (along with the rest of the American Left). You all think that socialism is the opposite of Rush (and what he stands for). It's not. Socialism is Rush multiplied a thousand times.

Hmm. Now, why would NBC suppress a story denouncing the corruption of the Saddam Hussein's regime ? The same regime that would still be in power (and still corrupted) if George W. Bush didn't invade Iraq in 2003 ?
I bet that in 2003 Oscar Wyatt Jr. was the first guy marching against the war. The early draft of his banner probably read "Hands Off my Baathist Iraqi friends who are helping me to get rich" before he changed it to "Hands Off Iraq" because it was shorter and more acceptable in the mostly leftist crowds who were also protesting the removal of a genocidal tyrant.
It's been sad for me to see Rush lose almost all of his integrity since 9/11. He was, and I believe he still might be, a decent conservative fellow, but now he has to make things up to exaggerate the non-existent difference between the repubs and the dems so that he has something to say.
Hillary is bad, but so is Rudy, and while part of me feels bad for someone who lost his way, it's his own damned fault.
On the other hand, I have no respect for Hannity, who was never even vaguely intellectually honest.

Limbaugh said his target was a reporter, whose name he said he would not "mention," who was writing "a cover story on me coming out of one of the big news magazines, and it was going to totally mischaracterize me and what I do and how I do it." Limbaugh continued: "[W]e found out who was writing it and made a couple phone calls to the person writing it. And we said, 'You know what? We're going to find out where your kids go to school. We're going to find out who you knocked up in high school. We're going to find out what drugs you used. We don't have in the US, like the old Soviet Union, the material basis for Stalinism. People like Stalin, Zinoviev etc. were opposed to the Russian Revolution. They came to power to counter spreading socialism. Stalinism can't flourish in a wealthy country. Even Stalinist societies, as they got wealthier, were less repressive. Nikita Khrushchev was less repressive than Stalin. The Russian masses were more educated, and society was wealthier. In Russia only Stalinists could reform Stalinism, because other opposition was liquidated.

Of course. And you can add Syria too (but not Iran - they have half-democratic elections there). But I think a more competent military than the American one would be needed for those wars. I don't think Saudi or Egyptian soldiers will be as obedient of John Lennon's immortal maxim 'What if they gave war and nobody showed up' as Saddam's soldiers were...

Very naive. The "material basis" for totalitarian oppression isn't lack of wealth (wealth's relative anyway, it means nothing). The "material basis" is human stupidity. And you've got that in great aboundance in the United States.

No offence, but you live in a country that widely respects the Wall Street Journal's "standards", and counts the New York Times as a "liberal/leftish" newspaper.
These sorts of wacky beliefs are a source of great mirth/sadness and very much head scratching everywhere outside your borders.
As I said, no offence intended, it's just that some perspective is needed.
That any left of center could defend Killary or Pelosi is beyond me. Rush is indeed and idiot, to be sure, but for the sake of the country we need a new speaker of the house.

I think we are all in General Agreement! Rush, Pelosi,Hillary,Stalin, Oscar Wyatt,Saddam and Nixon are/were a waste of good air.The list can be extended but we can't seem to agree on people with whom we agree.Interesting.
