California is just so....so... California! Ten days in this Live In Amusement Park is about my limit,really. Palm trees swaying in the breeze, sunglassed blondes in convertible Beemers, organic apricot juice with a twist of lemon.(eleven bucks!) We spent yesterday watching the homosexuals and doing TM. It is a land unto itself and Im glad it exists but I will also be glad to be getting back to Montana, where men are men and so are the women. Thankyou for your wine and I wish they all could be, but frankly this much change at this pace is not healthy for man or beast and it all still races along with no end in site. If America is all about consumption it is partly because California made it sleek and sexy but it is hard to imagine what the endgame is supposed to be to all this new wealth creation. I have not noticed a happiness surplus to go with the tans.

Seriously - I grew up in California, and I don't think it's as different from the rest of the country as people think. Certainly not from NYC metro area where I live now. Most of the differences are relatively superficial, I think. Or at least, of the type of cultural difference that always comes with a radical shift in geography.

Lichanos, maybe it has more to do with the physical environment, it seems downright tropicaland somehow manicured, but I have been mostly on the coast, Palm Springs to SF.I too was raised here and have a complicated love-hate relationship with the place.

Here we go again, you really do not understand the principal against sending a person to almost certain torture. However as a communist you endorse torture when expedient.
Saving your country from Communist depredations is a noble task. Perhaps you would be happier if Pinochet waited around like the folks at Katyn. The man saved his country from Communism and deserves praise.
